The story behind my "Cozy Mitts"

I started creating "Cozy Mitts" thanks to my wonderful husband.  We were on vacation on Mackinac Island this past summer and he found a quaint little shop for us to visit.  Upon entering the shop, we saw a display of beautiful fleece-lined wool mittens.  Being the month of August, I could not wrap around the idea of buying fleece-lined wool mittens for the winter.  When the store owner described how the mittens were made I thought..."maybe I will try to make a few pairs".

After our trip, I decided to research how to make the mittens.  My goal was to make them for family members for Christmas presents.  My first few pairs did not make it past the trash can.  Basically, they looked like goofy oven mitts.  Not what I was going for!!  So...I kept on trying.

Finally, I found a pattern that I liked and the mittens turned out okay.  I showed this pair to a friend of mine and she insisted that I sell them.  That idea really didn't cross my mind before our conversation.

A few days later, my parents came over and I showed them about 8 pairs of mittens that I had created.  They loved them as well (I mean they are my parents.  The mittens could have looked like goofy oven mitts and they still would have loved them!)  It just so happened that my dad had a friend whose wife just opened a boutique not far from our house.  He suggested that I show the mittens to the store owner to see if she would be interested in selling them in her store.  I was reluctant, but went along with my dad's plan.  As it was, the shop owner bought all 8 pairs of mittens.  I was shocked!!  The store owner suggested I make a label for the mittens.  So, the task began...what should I name them...what should be on the label...I needed help!

I went back to my good friend, one of my sister-in-laws, and my husband for advice.  After much brainstorming and suggestions, I came up with "Cozy Mitts".  My friend still insists on calling them "Colbys"...which cracks me up.

Since those events occurred I have sold "Cozy Mitts" at craft fairs, out of my house, to friends, to my parent's friends, and to the boutique near my house.  I am happy that other people appreciate the time and effort that I put into each pair of mittens.  Thanks everyone!
